Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N5 course!
The student's sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?
[Student's sentence]
私のへやはきれくないです。
*わたしのへやはきれくないです。
[My correction]
私のへやはきれくないです。
→私のへやはきれいじゃありません。
My room is not clean.
きれい(綺麗) is a na-adjective, an exception that just happen to end with い.
きれい's い ending is just part of the word, not the suffix of an i-adjective.
There are other exceptions.
子どものとき、やさいが嫌いでした。
(×子どものとき、やさいが嫌かったです。)
As a child, I hated vegetables.
嫌い（きらい） na-adjective
この歌手はゆうめいじゃありません。
(×この歌手はゆうめくないです。)
This singer is not famous.
有名（ゆうめい）na-adjective
